Learning has at all times and in all ages been a source of knowledge, of happiness, of pleasure, and even moral courage. The English is a language that comes from many countries in the world. Nowadays, there are a lot of people in the world who use the English language to communicate to each other. In today’ world with so much more to know and to learn and also the need for a conscious effort to conquer the divisive forces, the importance of increased because people recognize that learning the English language has many important advantages.

First, of all people can improve or update their knowledge or skill through learning the English language. The English language is spoken by many people around the world; therefore, we can understand easily the information or news events. For instance, many books in the library are written in English. All students should understand the English language in order to read the technical books. Furthermore, the international newspapers and the popular magazines are written in English while it discusses topical issues and raised controversies, it also provokes. Moreover, usually found on the internet. Many young teenagers now prefer to search for documents through the internet because of quickness and clearness. In short, learning English can improve successfully our knowledge and skills.

Another principle advantage of learning English is that it is easy to find a good job with a nice salary. According to the real situation in Cambodia, a developing country, people need to understand the English language even in writing, speaking, or listening. Cambodian people use the English language as a second language after their mother tang. For example, many companies required the candidates or the staffs to know English because they need to contact with customers in the other counties. I addition, the boss wants to have English speaker staffs in order to have fluently conversation in the conference. In brief, if we understand clearly English language, we may find a job easily and rapidly with high position.

The sum up, learning English is very important for people living in Cambodia. I am sure that there are a lot of people learning English language because they know very well about the advantage of learning English. To improve knowledge, and to find a good job are the essential advantages of learning English; hence, many people are encouraged to lean the English language.

Self Discipline for the University Student


It has long been said that one’s level of self-discipline affects the amount of success one achieves in life. The university years are the perfect time to develop this life skill and character trait because it is a unique time when adolescence is emerging into adulthood and one’s intellectual capacities are being sharpened. Self discipline can be crucial to success as a student because it has to do with developing the “inner strength” or the willpower to make the right choices and put them into action consistently. Self discipline gives an individual the ability to take action regardless of your emotional state and it can empower you to act according to what you think, rather than how you feel at the moment. Specifically, it can help students with goal setting, study habits and time management.

In order to stay focused and self-disciplined it helps to begin by setting up goals for you life. Ask the big questions – what is my ultimate goal? Why does life matter? Create and find a purpose for your life and try to live it out each day. Lock for something bigger than yourself and you can transform your efforts into commitment and passion and your hard work into a “labor of love”. Next, determine your particular goals – academic goals, extracurricular and social activities. Then you can figure out that you can accomplish in a day, week, month or term and make a daily and weekly schedule. Stick ultimate goals in life and don’t let distractions get out off course or interferes with getting your daily studying done.

In regards to study habits, set clear goals for each class. Learn material the first time it is presented and if you do not understand the lesson, struggle to figure it out and mater it immediately. Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions. Further, don’t pile new material on something you don’t understand. Failing to learn what you are supposed to lean each day will result in cramming for a test, excessive stress and unhealthy work habits. Always strive to study to retain the information.

Admittedly, the university years can be stressful: trying to manage your time while attending classes, working part-time, and finding social time for interactions with family and friends. Conscious effort is required to distribute you time well. And time management is needed to master a proper balance of your time for your day by day activities.

The Challenges of Classroom Behavior in the Modern Khmer School


As Cambodia becomes more and better educated and when those who have been educated have children; they will want a modern approach to education. Especially if their children are not performing up to their abilities and are being punished without results or those results are creating more troubling behavior.

As a teacher it is not the student whose classroom behavior is above reproach and their grades reflect it. Those students move through our systems without a hitch as we joyfully watch them move gratefully from one grade to the next. It is not those children that stick in a teacher’s memory. It is the student that sits in the back if allowed, and makes impropriate jokes, talks while a lesson is taught, cause fights and basically is a bad and lazy student. These students fail. When a student fails it is not his/her fault it is ours as teaches. As a teacher it is also one of the greatest joys to modify their behavior so that these students succeed. When they receive their first 100% on a spelling test on and their own, their confidence soars. Those are the students a teacher remembers most fondly.

The teacher’s attention is a powerful way of managing a student’s behavior. All students want the teacher to be interested in them and some will settle for any kind of attention. Dealing with inappropriate behavior within the classroom you must first not reward the problem student. By reward, I mean giving that student attention for their misbehaver. The more this student misbehavers the more attention he/she receives. All students value the teacher’s attention. And so the endless negative cycle starts.

This endless negative cycle can be stopped by redirecting your attention to the positive rather than the negative behavior in your classroom. By using your attention reward those students who are doing their task and ignoring students who are acting up just to receive It changes the dynamic of the whole class room. When the students learn that they will be given your attention for positive behavior, then they will behave in roper ways to get it. One simple way is to tell the student who is behaving properly next to the student who is misbehaving that he/she is doing a good job and that he/she is a good student all the while ignoring the other and then move on to the next task.

There will be student who will not respond to those positive measures and need a more resourceful approach. For these students use a warning procedure. First praise the appropriate behavior around the student. When this does not work tell the student their behavior is not appropriate. Give a warning then describe the behavior, (closer is better than across the room), and then tell the student the consequences of such behavior. Do not get into a conversation with the student or give them any more attention then it requires. “Sok Han, this is warning. No more drawing. Do your English workbook.” Praise the students who are working on the assignment to take away the attention just given to Sok Han. If the student does not respond calmly say “Sok Han one mark. I do not write his name on the broad because too much attention would be given to that student. I just write S or SH. If the student does not comply with your request the student is given another mark. This is done without comment while continuing giving praise for appropriate behavior. The punishment Is not hitting or kneeling on a hard knotty fruit, but taking away something the student values. I find break time is the best. I have the students stand and stare at a wall in the office. It is not a pleasant place for students to be.

Using your teacher’s attention can be your most effective tool in handling problem student behavior. When this is applied consistently your results will become magnified through out the classroom and the enjoyment of watching students easily journey from one grade to the next will give a great deal of joy.

Psychology in Educating

People are the main aspect of teaching and education, so they have to study the nature and rules which have an effect on their physical and mental development. Teaching is the science of education, and it is the approach that people transfer their knowledge and experience to others. In other words, psychology is the scientific study of behavior and the mental process. It is also the link of what people do, how they do it, and why they do it. Psychology appears everywhere and in any situation in people’s life. In order to educate people, we are required to have basic understanding of psychology and to comprehend the nature of people, particularly in the classroom. In many ways, therefore, psychology plays an importance role in the progress of teaching. Understanding the student’s behavior and mind is considered as the first usefulness of psychology in teaching. How the students act and conduct and themselves why they do it is coming up from their thinking. Because of psychology the, teacher is simply aware of their preference and requirement. The way that students think defines their performance. For instance, the students who do not catch the lesson well will stay quiet and do nothing, and when the teacher asks related questions, not one answers. The teacher rapidly recognizes that students feel bored and need more explanation and examples. In that way, the teacher can sort it out by raising his voice, telling or explaining to the class with funny words, and having some students answer several questions so as to make them focus on the class activities. These are ways of psychology does today.

The second importance is that psychology is the basic point related to the intelligent memory of the students. Reaching the goal in teaching a lesson, the instructor will use psychological methods to make the students remember what they are learning promptly such as teaching the ways of revising and thinking and teaching how to create imagination. These techniques will sharp en the student’s memory because when the teacher gives an explanation, students listen and think carefully in order to find questions to ask back, and then they must note the remarks. This will not be revised at home with imagination of the new creation will be made. For example, without imagination, the architect student could not graduate. This is because they study drawing and designing the structures of building or any object; hence, they need to think, dream, and imagine of what is always new to make their mater plans creatively in the global challenging world.

Last but not least, using eye contact and motivation is another psychological strategy to hold the class. This is also the main key to problem solving. It is the fact that where there are people, there are problems even in the class. Students are too young to understand the reality so they can make mistakes without doubt. Students can ruin their teaching by making noise; thus, using eye contact regularly while explaining, the teacher can keep the class tranquil and quiet. Eye contact can tell students that the teacher and lesson are very essential because he could show and inform their thinking through his eyes. Next, the teacher will not blame them, but give comments and encourage them peacefully.

By the following these tips, the necessities of psychology is considered as the main key in helping, leading, and urging the class to the edge of success. It helps both the teacher and students. Students’ behavior and thinking is always being understood by the psychological teacher. Moreover, studens are able to improve their analysis and dream their dream with reality and imagination. Workshop is a period of discussion and practical work on a particular topic, in which participants with the help of facilitators share their individual knowledge, expertise, and experience with the whole group, and then each group is required to give a presentation. There are several advantages of attending workshops.

The first advantage is knowledge improvement. While doing workshops, participants share ideas with others member in their group; they also learn from other groups’ presentations. The participant’s come from different countries, ministries, departments, and other workplaces. Participants have different ideas, knowledge, experiences and backgrounds. After the workshops, they will apply the skills and knowledge they have learned to their current jobs.

The second advantage is networking. During the workshops, all the participants meet and talk in order to get to know each other; attending workshops is good opportunity to network. Through networking, one can have chance for job advancement and business expansion as well.

The final advantage involves possible solutions to a specific problem. All the participants discuss the topics on the problems, questions, ideas, and solutions. How Educate the students to Become a Good Learner


As we know in studying is quite difficult for all the learners to build up their knowledge because it may takes a very long time for them to become good learners. To pursue in educating, all the students have to be studious so that they can reach their goal. In order to give good instruction to them, there are several factors that can advance them to turn into good learners.

First and most significantly, in teaching students to become good learners, it will have developed along the way. Students themselves are the most important point which vocal can push them to be fast in learning. Through my own experience in learning, I can say that is too hard to face with many things. Sometimes it is caused by curriculum of school that the students are not familiar with the language. It can be also caused by the classroom environment or their classmates. All these are the problems that can make them drop the school. In addition, talent is also a main part which helps them in growing rapidly educating for the reason that if they have a talent for learning, they will be easily educated. But if not it’s very hard to motivate them to learn.

The school factor, parents who play the most important role in cultivating a students’ motivation are the only one that can give good advice to them and teach them how to be a good child and a good student. This is a very important role parents who always stay with them and take care of them, so they will know how their children are. Parents have to support their children and motivate them so that they will feel comfortable in learning. In contrast, if their parents are careless in appreciating their children to study, they will be slow in education. Furthermore, parents have to spend their time staying close to their children in order to share their knowledge of the world of what they have known and learned before. Parents should discuss the issue of motivation with their children and involve them in the school’s efforts to increase students’ engagement and give them guidance.

Third factor, teacher is the last educator who can give the knowledge to the students to become good learners. In fact, teachers can influence student motivation; that certain practices do work to increase time spend on task; and that there are ways to make assigned work more engaging and more effective for students at all levels.

In conclusion, as what I have mentioned above, it is not enough to help the students to become good learners, they must be motivated as well by the community where they live and also by their family.

CAMBODIAN FOLK GAME: BAYKHOM ល្បែង «បាយខុំ»


Cambodia people popularly live in an extended family, especially in rural areas. Children live in the same house or in the same neighborhood often play together. Like children in other parts of the world, Cambodia children have their games to enjoy.

To introduce an interesting Cambodia’s game; a game is called Baykhom (បាយខុំ). The game is similar to Mancala game which is a family board games play around the world. The objective of the game is to collect more stones tan the opponent.

To play baykhom, players need to construct a series of holes arrange in two rows and each row has five holes (pits). Holes can be dug in the earth, carved in wooden board or used small rice bowls. Among 5 holes in each row, there is one large hole on the begin of each row, called Kbal Moeung (ក្បាលមឿង). Common playing pieces are tamarind seeds, stones, pebble or shells (សំបកខ្ជៅ). 42 stones are needed to play the game. Place 5 stones in each of the two larger holes (ក្បាលមឿង) and 4 stones in each small holes. Each player sits opposite to each other and Baykhom is in the middle. The game begins with one player scooping up all the stones from one of the holes in his/her side and placing them in the holes going counter-clockwise (or anti-clockwise) one stone at a time in each hole until the stone run out. Continue scooping up the next hole until there is one hole empty and then scoop up the hole after the empty hole (put it to one side). However, after deposit all the stones, there are two holes left empty respectively then that player left with nothing (ឃ្វាង). Players take turn moving and the game ends when all 10 holes are empty at the end of the game players count the stones and the winner is the player with the most stones.

The game is simple and fun to play but not many children play nowadays, especially urban children. It does not only serve the purpose of fun and enjoyment of children, but also provide means of improving metal capabilities.

When a man was given birth and starts getting the sunlight, he can firstly survive with what, almost nothing at all, is belonged to him only. In essence, talent could be considered as the most valuable belonging which a man has carried over since his first day on earth and which could be also represented as a tool determining his destiny whether he will be living in a bad or a good condition of life. For instance, when a 16 year-old boy was born and was unluckily growing in a disadvantageous condition of life, his basic and affordable demand is food and clothes. To achieve what he requires to survive daily, he needs to employ his god-gift skill for example in this case selling flower to earn money for his daily expenses. Having flowers sold could be considered as his main talent since he needs to use his interpersonal selling skill to convince customers to accept his offer anyways. If it is supposed that another who man who does not possess that kind of selling personality, it is hardly for him to get sales otherwise he would be talented in doing something else.

It is believed that talent only could not help a man to overcome his rough life because he would e constantly facing challenges, difficulties or event obstacles to accomplish thing. That is why a man needs to fulfill himself with formal or informal lectures at an institute or elsewhere. Because he needs to discover and understand wisely new things happened around him, study is the efficient way in assisting him applying talent in a right place and at right a time. In general, there are three sources from which a man could absorb new knowledge commonly such as family, school and society.

Family refers to in particular parent’s siblings and relatives who normally influence a man physically and mentally while school is an establishment where a formal transfer of knowledge taken place. Interestingly, society, by definition an organization gathering a group of people having same interest or aim, affects notably a man’s understanding and ideas. In brief, knowledge is generated formally or informally from study whilst talent is a man’s legacy from his birth. Study and talent together are a main factor determining clearly a man’s fortune. Moreover, with only talent a man could not opt a way ahead in order to live happily. Thus talent and study bonded together helps a man to plan for a better life. A good example was Bill Gate, a world billionaire talented in encoded computerization who also needed to attend class to broaden his understanding as well as ideas. He utilized his talent and exercised his basic knowledge to pioneer the information technology era and founded Microsoft Corp, the world leading computer Technology Company which is considered as his pool of wealth. Besides, a man possessed leadership talent has intention to become a politician and starts building up his skill in the field of law. After completing successfully his law courses, he can become a politician as his dream to be or event can plan to become a president in this country.

Study produces theoretical concept and without implementation, it means nothing. The use of knowledge creates, on the other hand, experiences. For example, a man was born in a good condition family and at the meantime he has learnt a lot good of things from his. Thus, he experienced good from his parents and relatives. However, if he selects a low quality institute to acquaintance his basic knowledge, finally he would be unlucky to obtain a good career. The man experiences badly from his wrong choice of school and this will be an alarm alerting him in reiterating his choice of new academic institution.

In conclusion, to get good life and good future is required basically talent, study and experience since particularly study and experiences are lasted eternally around a man’s living. Therefore relent plus knowledge and experiences lead a man to possess a critical thinking.

They always search and look for innovation even they are tired and banned by other people.

Economics, a part of the main domains, it requires for labor market which has both of physical and metal merit. These forces can eliminate economics crisis and stimulate economics growth. After that, a great of investment will set up in the country in order to diversity foreigner demands. As soon as, the job is announced, regional resident will be hired to upgrade their living standards trendily. In addition, other reasons why Human Resources strongly effected on society is ambitious, they can express their cultures and show that his/her unique nation is spreading over the world.

COMMUNICATING ACROSS CULTURES


As we know that this world is huge and it’s important to know about the different in culture between your countries and other country you are living, visiting or working in. If you don’t know the social customs, you may make mistake and offends people round you.

Praying for example in Cambodia, we usually put our hands together as well as to greet each other when we first meet with a smiling face. This first-rate custom makes everyone know that Khmer is a dignified race and very friendly. So you are expected do the same back to them as you are in this country.

Another example is handshaking. In France, they shake hands much more than in the UK – every day, so you mustn’t forget to do that. Food and wine is very important in this country and at a business lunch you shouldn’t start discussing right away. That might be considered bad manners. On the other hand, coming late to a meeting in Britain maybe acceptable as they often arrive five or ten minutes late for a meeting. But in Germany, you mustn’t be late because people are normally very punctual in work situations. They usually arrive at the organized time or earlier.

Another difference Is that you shouldn’t try to be humorous or make jokes with people you don’t know very well because it might make them feel not comfortable as you don’t know each other well yet. In Japan you should take plenty of business cards with you because they usually swap cards at the beginning of a meeting and they always read your card very carefully. Make sure to do the same when you are with them.

To sum up, in this world there are many things to learn and to do in order to be well prepared when you are out of the country. It is therefore very useful for you to know and to avoid making any mistake without learning.

REVENGE OF THE CACTI


In 1982, 27-year-old David Grundman and went “cactus plugging,”  - shooting the desert plant with a shotgun.

When the party ended, Jerome Moody, 31, was found dead at the bottom of the recreation department’s pool. Four lifeguards had been on duty and more than half of the 200 party-goers were themselves lifeguards.

KILLER ORANGE PEEL


Daredevil Bobby Leach courted death many times. In 1911, he was the second person in the world to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. Though he went on to perform many other death-defying stunts, his death would be a little more pedestrian.

Whilst walking down a street in New Zealand, Leach slipped on a piece of orange peel shattering his leg so badly it had to be amputated. He died from an infection soon afterwards.

DEATH BY DEMONSTRATION



Controversial Ohio politician Clement Vallandigham was also a highly successful lawyer who rarely lost a case.

In 1871, he defended Thomas McGehan, accused of the murder of Tom Myers. Vallandigham argued that Myers had accidentally shot himself while drawing his pistol from a kneeling position.

To convince the jury, Vallandigham demonstrated his theory. Unfortunately, he used a loaded gun by mistake and fatally shot himself. Vallangigham’s death was not in vain. He succeeded in demonstrating the plausibility of accidental shooting and his client was acquitted.

DEADLY UMBRELLAS


In 1991, artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude put up an environmental installation art of thousands of oversize yellow and blue umbrellas in California and Japan.

The giant umbrellas, which measured  about 20 foot (6m) in height, 28 foot (8.7 m) in diameter and weighted about 500 lb (227 kg), become a huge tourist attraction.

Less than two months after the installation opened, Lori Rae Keevil-Mathews, 33, went to see the umbrellas in California. A guest uprooted one of the umbrellas. Mathews was crushed against a boulder and killed.

Christo immediately ordered all of the umbrellas taken down. The umbrellas, however, were not finished. They soon took another life, this time in Japan. Whilst removing the umbrellas, crane operator Masaaki Nakamura was electrocuted when the machine’s arm touched a 65, 000 volt high-tension line.

A POOR REFLECTION


Chinese poet Li Po is regarded as one of the greatest poets in Chinese literary history. He was also a renowned drunkard, often spouting his greatest poems whilst intoxicated. One night, Li Po became hypnotized by the reflection of the moon in the Yangtze River.

Attempting to embrace the reflection, he fell from his boat and drowned.

A STUBBORN STUBBED TOE


Conductor Jean-Baptiste Lully sealed his fate while conducting the hymnal Te Deum for French King Louis XIV in 1687. While setting the musicians rhythm by banging his staff against the floor, Lully struck his toe.

The toe developed an abscess, which later turned gangrenous. Lully stubbornly refused to have it amputated. The gangrene spread and soon killed him.

Ironically, the hymn he was conducting was a celebration of Louis XIV’s recovery from on illness.

DEATH BY URINE


Danish nobleman and astronomer Tycho Brahe was notoriously eccentric. He had a dwarf who sat under the table during dinner, and a tame pet moose. After losing the tip of his nose in a duel, he wore a prosthetic nose made from silver and gold.

Surprisingly, it was the constraints of polite society that killed him. During one particularly long banquet in 1601, Tyco held his water so long he strained his bladder. It is said he later developed an infection killed him, although later analysis showed signs of mercury poisoning.

ប្រទេសកម្ពុជាប្រកាន់យ៉ាងខ្ជាប់នូវទំនៀមទំលាប់ប្រពៃណីដែលបុព្វបុរសបានបន្សល់ទុកអោយ ហើយក្នុងនោះមានពិធីបុណ្យជាច្រើនដូចជាៈ ពិធីបុណ្យជាតិ បុណ្យប្រពៃណី និងបុណ្យសាសនា ។ ពិសាខបូជា ជាពិធីបុណ្យធំមួយក្នុងចំនោមពិធីបុណ្យធំៗក្នុងចំណោមពិធីបុណ្យផ្សេងៗទៀត ហើយដែលពុទ្ធ បរិស័ទខ្មែរតែងប្រារព្ធឡើងជារៀងរាល់ឆ្នាំនៅថ្ងៃទី ១៥ កើត ខែពិសាខ ។
ពិធីនេះគេប្រារព្ធឡើងដើម្បី ៖
- រំឭកខួបថ្ងៃដែលព្រះពុទ្ធមណគោតមទ្រង់ប្រសូត្រ គឺនៅថ្ងៃសុក្រ ១៥កើត ខែពិសាខ ឆ្នាំច មុនគ្រឹស្តរាជ ៦២៣ ឆ្នាំ ។
- រំឭកខួបថ្ងៃដែលព្រះពុទ្ធបានត្រាស់ដឹង គឺថ្ងៃពុធ ១៥កើត ខែពិសាខ ឆ្នាំរកា មុនគ្រឹស្តរាជ៥៨៨ ឆ្នាំ ។
- រំឭកខួបថ្ងៃដែលព្រះពុទ្ធចូលបរិនិញ្វានក្នុងព្រះជន្ម ៨០ព្រះវស្សា គឺព្រះអង្គចូលបរិនិញ្វាននៅថ្ងៃ អង្គារ ១៥កើត ខែពិសាខ ឆ្នាំម្សាញ់ មុនគ្រឹស្តរាជ ៥៤៣ ឆ្នាំ ។
អាស្រ័យដោយការប្រព្រឹត្តទោសុទ្ធតែចំលើថ្ងៃទី ១៥កើត ខែពិសាខ ដូចគ្នាៗ ទើបគេប្រសិទ្ធិនាមពិធីបុណ្យនេះថា «ពិធីបុណ្យពិសាខបូជា ឬ វិសាខបូជា» ៕
